Power flushing (cleaning out your heating system)
Central Heating problems?
- Is your heating system slow to warm up?
- Are some radiators completely or partially cold?
- Do radiators need frequent bleeding?
- Is the radiator water dirty and discolored?
- Radiators with pin hole perforations and leakage?
- Are there ‘kettling’ noises from the boiler?
- Do you have repeated pump failures?
Then power flushing could be the answer!
Any of these symptoms could indicate that your system has circulation and flow problems resulting from internal corrosion and the subsequent formation of rust, sludge, and scale deposits. A Sentinel power flush can restore circulation and efficiency to the heating system by removing these undesirable products. It purges them from the system, and replaces aggressive water with clean water, chemically treated to prevent future problems.
Fitting a new boiler to an existing heating system?
The high efficiency and compactness of modern boilers, developed to minimize fuel costs and pollution makes them more susceptible to problems caused by debris in the system water. Boiler manufacturers insist that heating systems must be thoroughly flushed before installing a new boiler. A Sentinel power flush is far more effective than traditional methods and ensures that the boiler installation complies with ‘best practice’ standards.

The benefits of a heating system power flush
- Cures flow and circulation problems
- Restores system efficiency.
- Restores heat output to radiators.
- Cleans the whole system, including underfloor pipework.
- Removes aggressive water; treatment prevents further corrosion.
- Cures or prevents boiler noise.
- Power flushing and descaling in only one visit.
- Complete process carried out in less than a day.
- More effective than traditional flushing methods.
- Minimizes boiler warranty problems
We use the Sentinel power flushing pump with X400 or Ferroquest flushing chemicals. X100 corrosion and scale inhibitor is added to the system after flushing to give long term protection to the heating system against corrosion and scale.
What happens during a Sentinel power flush?
The SENTINEL power flushing pump is simply connected into the heating system, either across the standard circulating pump couplings, across the tails of one radiator, or wherever most practicable.

Power flushing is a highly effective cleansing operation which works by pumping water at a much higher velocity than usual through the heating system, to loosen and mobilize harmful corrosion deposits, and to suspend them in the rapidly moving water. The process is made more effective by specialist cleansing chemicals, and an instantaneous flow reversal device, which creates turbulence in the radiators to optimize ‘pick up’ of the debris.Once loosened, the unwanted debris is purged from the system with clean water.
At the end of the flushing process, the system contains fresh clean water, and reinstatement of the system to normal operation takes only a few minutes. During the SENTINEL process, radiators are individually flushed, without removing or disconnecting them from the system, by directing the full output of the pump through each radiator separately. Sentinel power flushing is not a high pressure operation, and it is suitable for most domestic wet central heating systems. It is carried out with minimal disturbance and disruption to the normal operation of the system, often without disconnecting the boiler or any radiators.
Why do heating systems need protecting?
As soon as a heating is completed and filled with water, As soon as a heating is completed and filled with water, deterioration of the system begins. The combination of water, air, a mixture of metals, and even installation debris and contaminants, can result in internal corrosion, sludge formation in low flow areas, and scaling of boilers and heat exchangers. Symptoms include cold panels in radiators, blocked radiators, irritating boiler noises, a long recovery time after drawing off hot water, an inadequate water supply, and failure of pumps, radiators, and valves. These problems are not inevitable, and good care and maintenance of a system, and the addition to the heating system of a quality corrosion and scale inhibitor, such as Sentinel X100, will prevent and often cure them. Correct use of the SENTINEL power flushing pump is the responsibility of us the operators. We use proper Power flushing pumps, chemicals, and corrosion inhibitors.
What will I get after a Power flush?

• Efficient central heating
• Lower fuel bills
• Peace of mind

Frequently asked questions
Q Why should I power flush my central heating system?
A Over the years, internal corrosion, and the formation of rust, sludge and scale deposits build up in heating systems. A power flush can restore circulation and the efficiency of the heating system. A more efficient boiler saves you money.
Q How long does the process take?
A The process takes, on average, 6 hours depending on the size of the heating system.
Q Can I get a free estimate?
A Yes, we will make an appointment to assess your heating system and give you a free estimate with no obligations.
Q How much does it cost?
A Fully inclusive prices start from £350.00 depending on the size of the heating system. You would need a heating system of 10 or more radiators for us to justify charging more than £350.00
Q Are there any hidden costs?
A All our prices are fully inclusive. The only time extra costs are incurred is if we discover a problem like a leak or faulty valves. Power flushing does not cause leaks but can show where a potential leak is waiting to happen. It is better that a leak shows up when we are in the house rather than Christmas morning.
Q How long does the power flush last?
A As each heating system is different a precise time cannot be given – but long term protection is given to the heating system against corrosion and scale.
Q What if I do not see a difference in the heating system after the power flush.
A If, at the end of the power flushing we cannot show you an improvement in the system then we make no charge.
Q Will there be a mess in my house?
A No! We take all precautions possible to ensure that there is no mess.
